Research Interests

Martin Schimmel’s main research interests are in different fields of seismology and include the physical phenomena of seismic wave propagation, the detection and understanding of the multitude of seismic signals, and the different strategies to image and constrain the structure of the Earth interior. In his recent work, he focused on crustal and upper mantle structure, seismic interferometry and noise generation. Further, he developed several new techniques to improve weak-signal detection and identification to increase our constraints on the fine structure of the Earth.
