Laboratory of Optic and Electron Microscopy and Image Analysis (MICROLab)

The application of optical microscopy, microanalysis, and image treatment techniques is an essential requirement for an geosciences institute such as GEO3BCN and to successfully address the commitments and challenges posed in by its research and researchers. The MICROLab allows the physical and chemical characterisation of natural (minerals) and synthetic (alloys) materials across different working scales, in order to facilitate the institute’s research activity and meet external demands.

Facilities
  • The laboratory facilities include various optical microscopes, some equipped with cameras, binoculars, microdrilling, and a high resolution desktop electron microscope with microanalysis, and specific software and hardware for image acquisition and processing.
