Los responsables del proyecto SANIMS se reunieron por primera vez con los representantes de los 12 centros de educación de la ciudad de Barcelona que colaboran con esta iniciativa de investigación ofreciendo un lugar para instalar una estación de registro sísmico. El encuentro con el profesorado se celebró en las instalaciones del ICTJA-CSIC los días 28 y 29 de octubre.

La reunión, coordinada por el investigador Jordi Díaz, sirvió para presentar los objetivos principales del proyecto. Además, se explicó de forma detallada a los profesores como será la red sísmica que se quiere desplegar en Barcelona mediante la instalación de sismómetros en los centros que han accedido a colaborar con el proyecto.

Díaz presentó también el retorno que se ofrece al alumnado de los centros que colaboran con esta iniciativa y mostró el tipo de señales que se esperan registrar con los instrumentos desplegados.

La instalación de los sismómetros en los diferentes centros colaboradores se extenderá a la largo del mes de noviembre. Los responsables de SANIMS esperan que a finales de mes estén operativas unas 15 estaciones. "Hemos buscado que los aparatos queden repartidos de forma más o menos homogénea en el plano de Barcelona", indica Jordi Díaz en relación a los criterios seguidos para seleccionar los centros escolares en los cuales instalar los sismómetros.

Uno de los objetivos del proyecto SANIMS es estudiar hasta qué punto las técnicas de "ambient noise" (vibraciones de fondo captadas por sismómetros no relacionadas con terremotos) pueden ser utilizadas en entornos muy perturbados por las actividades humanas. Los responsables del proyecto quieren comparar los resultados de las señales registradas por sismómetros instalados en una zona como el Pirineo catalán con las registradas por estaciones instaladas en una ciudad como Barcelona.
