Juan Alcalde, researcher at GEOBCN-CSIC, gave the first lecture in a series of lectures scheduled in the XXXth Industry and Minig Week, a annual event organized by Escuela de Ingeniería Minera e Industrial de Almadén (Universidad de Castilla-la Mancha). The lecture was held online last 9th of March. Alcalde introduced the Carbon capture and storage (CCS) and underground Hydrogen storage for energetic usage, both techniques are likely to be important tools in fighting against climate change.
In the first part, Alcalde explained all the features and possibilities provided by underground CO2 (CCS) storage. Alcalde also analyzed the potential risks related with this technology and how they can be adressed.
The second part was focused on analyzing the main scientific challenges posed by the Hydrogen underground storage in porous media, which, different from CO2 storage, is still a inmature technology.
