Research Interests
Geologist, I received my Ph.D. in Geological Sciences at the University of Barcelona (1987) and my MBA at the University Pompeu Fabra-IDEC (2002). I am a Scientific Researcher at the institute Geosciences Barcelona (GEO3BCN-CSIC), and Scientific Director of the Laboratory of Element and Isotope Geochemistry for Petrological Applications (labGEOTOP) of this research institute. In management, I was deputy director and director of the ICTJA-CSIC (former name of Geosciences Barcelona), among other positions of responsibility.
My research focuses on trace element mobility and mass balance modelling in natural and anthropogenic processes. Currently, I am working on modelling the impact of Holocene volcanism, mainly on the ash generated by explosive volcanic eruptions and geochemical carbon dioxide removal. Another field of interest is preserving, reusing, and interoperability of open research data. I have directed and participated in research projects on environmental changes in the geological record, environmental geology, water quality management, contaminated land management, management of geological resources, and volcanic hazards. The results of this research were published in more than 200 articles in scientific journals and book chapters.
